Obituary

Stanley G. Lathren, 68, of Myrtle Beach died on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at his residence.

Born on April 12, 1956, in Greenwood, he was the son of Harriett Willingham Lathren and the late Louis Edward Lathren.

A proud Navy veteran, he spent six years aboard the nuclear submarine USS Woodrow Wilson. Following his service in the Navy, he worked for many years as a Nuclear Operator at the VC Summer Nuclear Power Plant in Jenkinsville, SC.

He was a constant presence at family gatherings, taking every opportunity to be with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His love for them was unwavering, and he took great pride in watching them grow, laugh, and create memories together. He found joy in the warmth of his family's company and cherished the bonds they shared. Whether on the field or in the backyard, he enjoyed playing baseball, tennis, basketball, and, above all, football. He found joy going to the beach to swim in the ocean for hours on end, poolside bingo, ping pong, shuffleboard, and spent endless hours sitting in the hot tub.

As part of the "Awesome 8", Stan shared countless memories and countless miles on his bike, making each trip an unforgettable adventure. His legacy lives on in the stories he left behind and the memories he created with those who were lucky enough to ride beside him. He was a true music lover, finding joy in the energy of concerts, the thrill of music festivals, and the upbeat atmosphere of the House of Blues. One of his favorite ways to unwind was at the Duplin Winery, where he could be found drinking glasses of wine, laughing, dancing, and shooting the breeze with friends. His humor and contagious spirit made every moment spent together one to cherish.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kathy Kibler Lathren; daughter, Crystal Autrey (Frankie) of Caesar's Head, SC; daughter, Lindsey Perez (Vincent) of Cape May, NJ; son, Casey Lathren (Caitlin) of Lexington, SC; grandchildren, Justin Dickson (Katie), Larry Autrey, William Autrey, Savannah Perez, Sierra Perez, Connor Ruddy, Benjamin Lathren, Spencer Lathren, Isabelle Lathren; great-grandchildren, Rilynn Dickson, Adaline Autrey, Brenton Autrey; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to Louis Lathren, he was predeceased by his brother Terry Lathren.

He was a member of Bachman Chapel Lutheran in Prosperity, SC, attended Chapin Baptist Church in Chapin, SC and also, attended Carolina Forest Community Church in Myrtle Beach, SC.
