Obituary

Steven Ray Burke, 68, of Chapin, SC, entered into eternal rest on June 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 4th, 1956, in New London, Connecticut, to the late Raymond and Mildred Burke.

Steve was the faithful husband of Susan Burke with whom he built a beautiful life rich with family and love. A devoted father and grandfather, affectionately known as Pa, nothing brought him greater joy than the family that loved and surrounded him.

Steve graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a degree in accounting and later completed his Executive Masters of Business Administration at UCONN. He went on to a successful career in the defense industry rising through the ranks to Chief Financial Officer. Steve also followed his dream of owning his own indoor sports complex.

Beyond his professional life, he was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and the Timberlake Golf Club where he enjoyed countless rounds of golf with the "Dilly Boys". Steve was a huge sports enthusiast and enjoyed cheering for his New York Yankees and UCONN lady Huskies. He was a dedicated youth sports coach and enjoyed sharing his passion and knowledge. Most notably, he coached the Comets soccer team with great pride.

Music was one of Steve's great joys, with the Eagles ranking as his favorite band. On a warm day you would be sure to find him sitting outside with his headphones on listening to music until dark. Steve will always and forever remain an outgoing, spirited, genuine friend and member of the community.

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Susan Torok Burke; son, Steven and Chrissy Burke; daughters, Lindsay and Jake Terry; and Lauren and Chris Kevorkian; grandchildren, Emma and Joey Burke; Adeline, Cameron and Charlie Kevorkian; and Savannah & Wyatt Terry. He is also survived by his sister, Ronda Burke; brother, Michael Burke (Amy); brother in-law, Stephen Torok (Dianne) and sister-in-law, Sharon Catanzaro, as well as numerous extended family members. In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by parents-in-law, George and Rose Torok. His spirit is carried on by his beloved wife, Susan, his children, grandchildren, and countless friends who were touched by his big heart.

The family would like to express their greatest appreciation and thanks to the 4th floor nurses at Prisma Parkridge and the wonderful staff with MSA Health for the diligent care and love they all provided to him and his family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held by the Rev. Dennis B. Willey on Thursday, July 10, at 1:30 PM at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.
