Steven J. "Steve" Mari, 43, of 1430 Glenn St., Newberry, SC died Saturday, September 24, 2016 in Columbia. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, a son of Rita Ferraro Boyst of Warminster, PA and Joseph R. Mari of Philadelphia, PA. Steve was a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School and attended Temple University. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a former assistant district manager for U-Haul. He was an avid history buff. He loved sports, especially baseball, football, and hockey. His hobbies included his passion for Italian food and love of cooking, collecting sports trading cards with his wife, watching classic movies especially movies like Star Wars and Star Trek, and watching Looney Tunes cartoons which were his favorites. He had a great sense of humor, could make anyone laugh, but most importantly was a great listener and giver of advice and guidance. Steve is survived by wife, Danielle Turkaly Mari; step-father, Edward "Ed" Boyst; siblings, Dana Kaye (Jeff) of Warminster, PA and Thomas (Tom) Boyst of Philadelphia, PA; nieces, Riley Ann and Cailee Kaye; maternal grandmother, Richetta Ferraro; and step-paternal grandmothers, Anna Boyst and Dorothea Boyst. He was predeceased my his maternal grandfather, Vincent Ferraro and his step-paternal grandfather, Charles Forston Boyst His family was important to him and he enjoyed reminiscing about them during his formative years.
