Steven "Steve" Henry Bishop, 72, died Thursday August 19, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. Steve was born on April 13, 1949 in Newberry, a son of the late Joseph Hamilton and Edith Parker Bishop. Following high school Steve joined the United States Air Force and later served in the National Guard 122nd Engineering Battalion of Saluda. He worked for 30 years with Champion Corporation and International Paper. After retirement, he operated his own heavy equipment company, S.S. of Newberry. He was a member of the Newberry Pistol Club and he enjoyed the outdoors whether it was hunting, shooting, or enjoying some Clemson football. He was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church, and was active in the Lutheran Men in Mission where he often did the cooking. Steve is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan Frick Bishop; children, Joseph "Joe" Bishop (Ann) of Oxford, MS, Benjamin "Ben" Bishop (Delaine) of Newberry, and Sarah Bishop Williams of Prosperity; grandchildren, Jenna, Caleb, and Blake Bishop, Luke Cumberland, Sam and Ben Peeler, and McKenzie Bishop; and his siblings, Joey Bishop of Newberry and Conway, Mark Bishop (Anne) of Newberry and Lisa Bishop of Newberry. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Bobby Morris at 11 AM Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church social hall. Pallbearers will be Sam Traylor, Dean Bishop, Dustin Bishop, and Wayne Nichols. Members of the Newberry Pistol Club, Dan and Debbi Drafts, Ned and Trudy Brewer and Ritchie and Helen Koon will serve as honorary pallbearers.
