Obituary

Tensie Perry Stone, 97, of Newberry, died Thursday, June 20, 2018 at her residence. Born on July 15, 1920 in Saluda, she was the daughter of the late Thomas "Tom" Bacon Perry and Mary Jane Corley Perry and the wife of the late James E. Stone. Mrs. Stone retired from Kendall, after having worked in both the Mollohan and Oakland plants in Newberry. She was a member of Summer Memorial Lutheran Church and the Newberry Chapter # 226 Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a Widow of the Newberry Shrine Club. Tensie was awarded the status of Volunteer Emeritus in 2017 after she served 20 years as a volunteer at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital. In 2012, she received the Jake and Mildred Fulmer Humanitarian of the Year Award. She is survived by her son, Thomas E. "Eddy" Stone, Sr. and Genie of Greenwood; very faithful son-in-law, Jimmy Smith of Newberry; grandchildren and their spouses, Deedee and Benji Westwood, Lisa and Allen Sligh, Thomas E. "Eddy" and Melanie Stone, Jamie Smith, Rev. Bridgett and Rev. Josh Parsons and James Dwight "JD" and Dawn Stone; great grandchildren and their spouses, Austin Westwood, Adam Westwood, Alli and Jackson Graham, Erica Stone, Corey Stone, Maggie Parsons, Eli Parsons, Kaitlyn Stone, and Kaley Stone; great great grandchildren, Jacob Westwood and Case Graham; numerous nieces and nephews including a very devoted nephew and his wife, Jimmy and Brenda Turner; and her loyal dog Faith. In additional to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Jane Smith; and her siblings, Miriam Slice, Elnora Shealy, Evelyn Hancock, Rachel Turner, Thomas D. "T.D." Perry, Jr., Mattie Belle Colman, James Henry Perry, and Claude Perry. The family will be at her residence and will receive friends on Saturday, June 23, 2018 from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at the Whitaker Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 PM Sunday at the Summer Memorial Lutheran Church conducted by the Rev. James Henricks. Interment will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jamie Smith, Eddy Stone, Jr., JD Stone, Austin Westwood, Adam Westwood, Corey Stone, Allen Sligh, Benji Westwood, Rev. Josh Parsons, and Jackson Graham. Honorary pallbearers will be the former and current volunteers at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
