Thaddeus "Ted" Malinowski, ("Dziadz"), 93, of Chapin, died Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at his residence.
He was born on January 17, 1923 in Lancaster, NY, son of the late Thomas and Veronica Malinowski. One of thirteen children, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Ted was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, achieving the rank of Platoon Sergeant. He served in the 3rd Marine Division in Guam, Bougainville, Guadalcanal, Saipan and Iwo Jima where he observed the raising of the U.S. flag.
Following his military time, he worked for NY State Electric and Gas Corp., retiring as General Line Foreman.
Mr. Malinowski was a dedicated member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.
He enjoyed traveling the U.S., BBQing, and spending time with family and friends.
Throughout his life he had a passion for baseball. In his younger years, he had offers to play in the Major League.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and is survived by daughter, Barbara Malinowski of Chapin and San Francisco, CA; son, Bill (Rosemary) of Chapin; grandchildren, Tommy (Kathy), Ted, and Susan Naputi (Joe); and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Regina Malinowski.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 4 from 9:30 until 10:45 am at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Chapin SC.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am following visitation, by Rev. Bernard Oniwe.
Interment will be at 2:00 pm in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
