Obituary

God called Theresa Terry A. Gore Barrett 89 of Chapin SC home on Wednesday February 16 2011. Born on December 2 1921 in Brooklyn NY she was a daughter of the late Cornelius Patrick and Barbara Durr Gore. Theresa was sitting at the soda fountain at the Kresge Five and Dime in Jamaica New York in August 1939 when she was spotted by the handsome Bostonian Bart Barrett. They were married on June 30th 1940. Bart passed away a week after they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Terry enjoyed spending time with her two daughters and their families attending every event that she could. She also enjoyed flower gardening bowling and traveling with Bart. Bart and Terry were faithful members and active volunteers of St. Pauls Roman Catholic Church in Waterford CT and Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Chapin SC. Mrs. Barrett is survived by her daughter Lois (Barry) Mather of Chapin and son-in-law Jim Earp of Concord North Carolina. She is also survived by grandchildren; Brent (Lori) Tharin Michelle (Walter) Skwarek Fred (Kathy) Tharin and Sabrina Earp all of Connecticut Brenda (Colin) Nowlin of North Carolina Brian (fiance Christy) of West Columbia and Bart Mather of Boston Massachusetts; her brother Patrick (Dorothy) Gore of Long Island New York. She has 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild who will all miss her dearly. In addition to her parents and husband Bart she was predeceased by her daughter Theresa her brother Albert Gore and her sisters Nora Byrnes and Marie Gargani. A Rosary Service for Terry was held on Sunday February 20th at 6:30 PM at Whitaker Funeral Home 939 Chapin Rd. Chapin. Visitation with the family did follow until 8:00 PM. A memorial service was held at 11:00 AM Monday February 21st at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Chapin with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church building fund PO Box 549 Chapin SC 29036 The family would like to thank the ER staff at Lexington Medical Center for their kindness and understanding during a difficult time as well as the staff of Generations of Chapin and the Heritage at the Lowman Home for their kindness and excellent care over the last few years.
