Thomas Bernard Tom/ Stumpy Bradley 80 of 1046 Tanglewood Ct. Newberry SC died Wednesday June 26 2013 at his residence. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 PM Sunday June 30 2013 at Summer Memorial Lutheran Church by the Rev. Stephen Mims. Intermentd dl follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation was from 3:30 to 5:30 PM and 7:00 to 8:00 PM both on Saturday at the Whitaker Funeral Home Newberry. Born on Sept. 12 1932 in Newberry he was a son of the late Charlie Bernard and Estelle Adams Bradley. He served his country as a pilot in the United States Air Force serving during the Viet Nam War and retiring as a Lt. Colonel. Following his military career he taught in the public schools. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson University and a Masters Degree from both Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of South Carolina. Mr. Bradley was an active member of Summer Memorial Lutheran Church where he was a Sunday School teacher a member of the Lutheran Men in Mission and a former member and prior President of the Congregational Council. He was named an Honorary Life Member of the Lutheran Men in Mission of the ELCA and was a recipient of the Exchange Clubs Book of Golden Deeds. Tom was a member of the Newberry Lions Club and Interfaith Community Services. In retirement he expanded his passion for golf and proved to be a voracious reader. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Betty Brigman Bradley; daughter Sheryll Bradley of Concord NC; son Dr. Michael S. Bradley (Kathryn) of Madison WI; and grandchildren Margret Maggie Bradley and Sean Bradley. He was predeceased by sisters Mary B. Amick Bessie B. Miller Mildred B. Harper and Lucy B. McCartha and brother Daniel Dan Bradley. Pallbearers were Jimmy McCartha Von Metts Brian Kinard Lee Werts Blake Brigman Michael Mills Thomas D. Brigman Sean Bradley Phil Livingston and Larry Cromer. Honorary pallbearers were Charles and Jean Simmons Barbara Weaver Gordon and Audrey Henry and members of the Tom Bradley Sunday School Class.
