Thomas M. Abrams 81 formerly of 4200 Bush River Road Newberry died Saturday January 10 2004 at the J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home. Mr. Abrams was born in Newberry County a son of the late Oscar H. and Phoebe Reagin Abrams. He was a 1943 graduate of Clemson College and he was an Army veteran of WWII having served in the infantry in the European Theater. He retired in 1984 as the Director of the Newberry County Conservation Service (ASCS) Office and he was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the agriculture in Newberry County. He was a member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He was also a member of the Newberry Lions Club and he was a Bush River Volunteer Fireman. He enjoyed hunting and was an avid Clemson football fan. Mr. Abrams is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Marcia A. and Homer L. "Sonny" Ringer of Newberry; his grandson Lee T. Ringer of Lufkin TX; a sister Inez A. Stephens of Newberry; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters Frances Abrams and Gertrude Wise and three brothers Cecil Mac and Ed Abrams. Funeral services for Thomas M. Abrams will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Smyrna Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Scott E. Hill. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
