Thomas Otto Tommie Suber 86 beloved husband daddy granddaddy and brother died Monday May 16 2011 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home Newberry. Tommie was born in Pomaria SC on February 7 1925 a son of the late Willie Jacob Suber Sr. and Edna Leitzsey Suber. During World War II Mr. Suber actively served in the US Army in the Philippines and Japan. He returned home to the family dairy farm where he and his brother Jacob co-owned and operated Suber Brothers Dairy until their retirement. Tommie was an avid gardener and loved sharing produce from the garden with family and friends. He was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church and served many years as an usher and on the Church Council. Mr. Suber is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years Lela Kate Katie Kinard Suber; daughters Diane (Grady) Yarborough and Ellen (Fred) Blackstone; son Russell (Phyllis) Suber; granddaughter Natalie Suber; and grandson Jordan Suber; brother Jacob (Helen) Suber; sisters Ethel Smith Cornelia Long Elizabeth (Harvey) Berley Mathilde Smith and Marie (Dan) Sandel. He was predeceased by brothers-in-law Thomas Smith Pat Long and Mark Smith. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday at St. Matthews Lutheran Church by the Rev. Steven D. Jackson. Interment was in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 6:30 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry. Active pallbearers were Vernon Smith Dale Smith Steve Sandel Warren Sandel Jay Harley and Shane Livingston. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Matthews Lutheran Church P.O.
