Obituary

Thomas Edward Tommy Longshore Jr. 66 of Newberry died Wednesday December 3 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am Saturday December 6 2014 at Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jeff ODell and Rev. Ken Carter. Interment will be in the Trinity United Methodist Church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry. Born on February 5 1948 in Newberry County he was the son of the late Thomas Edward Sr. and Louise Harmon Longshore. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church the Newberry Moose Lodge and the Newberry County Law Enforcement Association. He was also a current member of the Newberry County Transportation Committee. Tommy retired from Newberry County serving as the Public Safety Director for seventeen years. He also served as the Director of the Newberry City Building and Zoning Department for nine years and had previously served as a city judge and as a magistrate. He was a former fireman with the City of Newberry and the Friendly Fire Department. Tommy was a volunteer with Silverstreet Fire Department where he also served as the chaplain. He formerly taught at the SC Fire Academy. He is survived by his former spouse and close friend Susan Epting Longshore; a daughter Leah Longshore Pruitt (Brian) of Spartanburg; a granddaughter Suzana Pruitt; an uncle Milton Longshore (Elizabeth) of Prosperity; a sister and brother Jean and Fred Blackmon; and a number of cousins.
