Thomas W. Burton Jr. 79 of Vero Beach FL died Thursday May 20 2010 at Indian River Medical Center. Born on May 26 1930 in Richmond VA he was the son of the late Thomas W. Sr. and Lucy Smoot Burton. He retired from the U.S. Army after completing 22 years of service. He then joined the staff of Clemson University where he had previously taught military history as Supervisor of Grounds and Equipment Manager for the Athletic Department. He was employed by Bio-Services Inc. as Vice President of Field Operations. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity Clemson Lodge No 254 A.F.M. Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1822 B.P.O.E. Lodge #1774. He was a founding member of the Athletic Equipment Managers Association and a former member of the Sunrise Pilot Club. He is survived by his wife Jane Paysinger Burton; daughters and their spouses Jan and Rick Steenback of Simpsonville SC and Jerri and Larry Martin of Liberty SC; 4 grandchildren Philip Martin Brian Martin Mark Steenback and Susan Sene; and 4 great grandchildren Bailie Martin Aubrie Martin Emmory Steenback and Rilynn Sene. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 PM Sunday June 13 2010 at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Newberry SC. Interment will be in Rosemont Cemetery.A gathering will be held in Vero Beach on Wednesday June 2 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M at Strunk Funeral Home 916 17th Street Vero Beach Florida 32960.
