Obituary

On Wednesday, July 29, 2020 following a long and courageous battle with lung cancer, Toney J. Celorio, 72 years of age, went home to be with his Lord. Toney was born in Mexico City, Mexico on February 26, 1948, a son of the late Antonio C. Celorio and Maria Magdalena Jurado Celorio. He is survived by his son, Kenneth W. Celorio; daughters, Sharon H. Phillips and Richard D. Phillips and Monique Hernandez; grandchildren, Jordan A. Anderson, Serenity Gonzales, Ciara c. Celorio, expected great granddaughter Paxtyn Nicole; sisters, Martha McElligot, Alicia Celorio Manning-Billow and Rob Billow; brothers, Maurice Jurado Graves Celorio and Kathy Iwatate, Alex Jose Calvo and Charles E. Graves; several cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and his loving and loyal dog Scotty and two precious cats Kiki and Tigger. Toney loved the Lord, his children, all his family. He was proud to have served in the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. He was also proud to have served the city of Henderson, NC as a law enforcement officer. His enjoyments included motorcycles, muscle cars, gun collecting, coin collecting and watching football. He was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins and Notre Dame. Toney loved with great joy all kinds of animals and especially his dogs. He also treasured the time he spent during his last six months talking and joking with his dear and best friend Kim Spurgin. He spent many good years at his home and property near Lake Murray and especially enjoyed going for rides across the lake on his pontoon boat. Toney will be dearly missed by all who loved him. He will be interred at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.whitakerfuneralhome.com. Whitaker Funeral Home of Newberry is assisting the family.
