Trudie Bedenbaugh Epting, a much-loved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully into her Savior's arms on January 17, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. Throughout her 98 years, she brought so much joy to her family with her sweet smile, funny remarks, and loving spirit.
Born in Leesville, South Carolina on October 11, 1922, to Virgil and Geneva Oswald Bedenbaugh, she was the second of 5 daughters. She grew up as a country girl on the family farm and after graduating from Batesburg-Leesville High School, she married the love of her life, Bob Epting (Robert F.). It was then that she became a "city girl", living the rest of her life in the town of Prosperity, South Carolina. Their firstborn was Rodney Epting, an only child, until almost 17 years later, he was joined by a sister and brother Jenny and Chris Epting.
After her marriage, Trudie transferred her membership from Union Lutheran Church, Leesville, SC to her husband's home church, Grace Lutheran Church in Prosperity. She always loved Grace Lutheran and she served on the altar guild committee for many years. In her later years, she joined the Grace Sease Sunday School class where she was blessed with wonderful messages from the Bible and the companionship of her classmates.
Trudie was a true homemaker, always taking such good care of her children, home, and yard. With a passion for sewing, she regularly visited cloth shops, searching for the right pattern and cloth to create beautifully tailored clothes for her daughter and, of course, herself. From ceramics, basket-making, art, crocheting, and cross-stitching, there was nothing she could not master as she filled her home with beautiful keepsakes.
In her later years, following the death of her husband and son, Chris, she joined her daughter, Jenny, in continuing the family business, Epting Automotive, an auto parts store that Bob had founded in 1955. She loved conversing with the customers, and she provided so much loving support to her daughter, as they worked side by side for many years.
Trudie is survived by her son, Rodney F. Epting (Margaret) and her daughter Jenny Epting Braswell (Jimmy). She has 3 grandchildren, Lee Epting Koon (Jay), Sheron Epting Quattlebaum (Daniel), and Christopher D. Epting (Annie). She was also blessed with 3 great-granddaughters, Jaylee Koon, Leila Kate and Hannah Quattlebaum.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Robert F. (Bob) Epting, her son, Christopher R. (Chris) Epting, a 3-day old infant son, Terry Holland Epting, and a daughter-in-law Merle Bedenbaugh Epting. She was also predeceased by all her sisters and brothers-in-law: Modell and Pascal Shirey, Navis "Bobbie" and Cal Cannon, Muriel and Brunson Rikard and a 5-year-old sister, Sederis.
We extend our sincere thanks to Mama's caregivers who made her last years on earth so sweet and memorable. To Christine Bates, Stephanie Newman, Kathy Tapia, Dorothy Watson, Gwendy Wheeler, and others: Mama loved you and we are eternally grateful for the love you shared with her.
