Vera Berry Dale, 104, of Silverstreet, SC died Sunday, March 13, 2022.
Born on January 31, 1918, in Silverstreet she was a daughter of the late Joseph Clark and Clara Hope Swindler Berry.
Vera loved life and lived it as best she could, finding joy in the people and places that surrounded her. She was a long-time member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church, and was active in her Circle. She traveled to and lived in different places for many years with her husband in the Marine Corps. She was involved in the Ruritan Club and the Roadrunners Travel Club, and supported the Shriners Club. And Vera loved playing Shanghai Rummy with friends and family.
She began her career as a telephone operator and later she transitioned to Newberry County Memorial Hospital where she worked for many years as Head of Housekeeping and Sterilization.
Vera loved to take care of people. Whether it was at work or cooking a meal to share, she found joy in service to others. She was thoughtful and kind, everyone loved her, and she loved everyone. Her greatest joy was spending time at home with family.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley F. Fant (Thomas) of Silverstreet; sister, Norine Kinard of Newberry; sister-in-law Shirley Abrams Berry; grandchildren, Patty Dorroh (Doug), John Dale (Sandra), and Bill Dale (Judy); nieces and nephews; eleven great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Lewis Franklin Dale; son, Boyce "Sonny" Bell; siblings, Ollie B. Nichols, Josie Randall, Olen "Scrap" Berry, and Grady Berry; and three infant children.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. John Stoudemayer at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Silverstreet Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The casket will be placed in the funeral home on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 for those wishing to pay their final respects. The family will be at the home, 216 Abrams St., Silverstreet and will also receive friends in the church Fellowship Hall following the service.
Pallbearers will be Bill Dale, Shane Dale, Chase Dale, John Dale, Clarke DeHart, Justin Pitts, Jay Piersol, Nick Piersol, and Austin DeHart.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Foster, Craig Kesler, Johnny Wix, Sherri Scott, Jerry Havird, Anna DeHart, Bill Hillman, and the Elsie P. Nichols Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Hospital; the Shriners Association; and to Silverstreet Lutheran Church.
