Virgil M. Stone 82 of Aiken died Sunday April 1 2012 at his residence. A memorial service was conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Millbrook Baptist Church in Aiken by the Rev. Dr. Eddie Leopard. Interment services were held at 3:00 PM Thursday in Rosemont Cemetery in Newberry. Born on July 30 1929 in Newberry he was the son of the late Joseph and Marie Coppock Stone. Mr. Stone was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a retired employee of the Savannah River Plant. He was an avid camper and fisherman and most importantly a very devoted husband and father. His church membership was at Millbrook Baptist Church of Aiken where he was a former Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was also a founding member of the Whittlers Group. Mr. Stone is survived by his sons and a daughter-in-law Dale L. Stone D.M.D. and his wife Pam of Lavonia GA and Vance N. Stone P.E. of Columbia and 2 grandchildren Melisa L. Stone and Heather M. Stone. He was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years Doris Livingston Stone. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Sr. Mens Whalen Sunday School Class and the Whittlers Group.
