Virginia Bess Corley Renwick 87 of Newberry died Saturday March 28 2009 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Her husband James S. Renwick Jr. predeceased her. Born in Newberry County she was the daughter of the late Homer Edward and Annie McCary Corley. She was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in Washington D.C. as a stenographer from 1944-1946. Mrs. Renwick retired from the Kendall Company Oakland plant was a member of the Newberry Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and volunteered at Speers Street Elementary School for 25 years as a teacher helper. Surviving are sons and their wives James S. Renwick III of Columbia Stanley M. and Linda Cromley Renwick of Newberry and George E. and LuAnne Richardson Renwick of Lexington; a daughter and her husband Ann Renwick and Samuel M. Price Jr. of Newberry; grandchildren and their spouses April Renwick Grady and Will Ginger Renwick George and John J. McGill Price and Holly Cpt. Samuel M. Price III and Katie and Renwick Meagan Price two great-granddaughters Savannah N. Grady and Abigail McGill Price; a brother Robert Joseph and Eleanor Lewis Corley of Spartanburg; and sisters Mary Nell (Polly) Shealy of Columbia and Ethel Corley Mayer of Newberry. Mrs. Renwick was predeceased by siblings James William Corley Verdie Florence Wise and Haskell Ellison (Hap) Corley. Graveside funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Tony Locke. The family was at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley M. Renwick 134 Shady Lane and did receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Whitaker Funeral Home.
