Virginia Joann Massingale, 86, of Prosperity, died Sunday, August 20, 2023 at home surrounded by her family. She was married for 69 years to the late Melvin "Cherokee" B. Massingale.

Born on April 23, 1937 in Valley Falls, SC, she was a daughter of the late William Floyd and Emma McCombs Turner.

An extremely hard worker, Virginia worked for Newberry Mills, D&D Trucking and most recently Newberry County School District lunch room.

She loved a good thrift store and was a collector of things - especially horseman dolls, Avon bottles, and shoes. She was a great mother, firm when she needed to be, yet always compassionate. Her greatest joy was her family who will deeply miss her love and her German chocolate cake.

She is survived by her children, Steve Massingale (Becky), Becky Smith (Davey), Mike Massingale, Barbara Derrick (John) and Bobby Lynn Massingale (Marcia); 13 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and sisters, Linda McDowell and Vicki Harrelson.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at Glory Tabernacle Church, 905 Pope Street, Newberry. Pastors Joel and Lori Mundy will be officiating the service. Interment will follow at Newberry Memorial Gardens.
