Miss Virginia Hayes Culbertson (Tuta or Cub) of Fountain Inn SC died Tuesday January 28 2014 at Greenville Memorial Hospital after an extended illness of Pneumonia and complications. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday February 1 2014 at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel Newberry by the Rev. Stephen Mims. The family did receive friends following the service at Whitaker Funeral Home and interment did follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Born on August 27 1948 in Newberry SC she was the daughter of Virginia Hayes Culbertson and the late Russell ONeal Culbertson. Tuta was a 1966 graduate of Newberry High School. She then graduated from Winthrop College in 1970 with a degree in Elementary Education and received a Masters Degree from Clemson University. Miss Culbertson retired after more than 30 years with the Greenville County School System having taught at both Ellen Woodside Elementary and Woodmont Middle School. She was a member of Summer Memorial Lutheran Church Newberry and a longtime faithful supporter of the Clemson Tigers and IPTAY. In addition to her mother Virginia of Newberry Miss Culbertson is survived by a niece Staci Mims (Stephen) of Lexington; a nephew Trey Culbertson of Aiken; a sister-in-law Bonnie R. Culbertson of Aiken; three great-nieces Rachel and Mary-Margaret Mims and Mia Culbertson; a great-nephew Luka Culbertson; and her loving cats Clemson Tiger Bandit and Smokey and a Cocker Spaniel Lucy. She was predeceased by her father and her brother Russell ONeal Rusty Culbertson II.
