Reverend Walter D. Byrd 51 of Prosperity S.C. Pastor of the Church of God of Prophecy in Pacolet S.C. founder of New Heart Ministries a heart transplant recipient Volunteer of helping families at Christmas and WIS TV 10 weather helper died Monday July 18 2005 at the Greenville Memorial Hospital.Rev. Byrd is survived by his parents Dewey "D.B." Byrd Sr. and Audrey Byrd of Prosperity; his four children Eric Byrd of Pelzer Justin Byrd of Prosperity Julie Byrd of Spartanburg and Joseph Byrd of New York; two brothers and sisters-in-law Dewey Byrd Jr. and Jackie Byrd of Saluda Eddie and Sharon Byrd of Newberry; a sister and brother-in-law Frances and Clarence Howard of Prosperity; five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.The family was at the home of Dewey Sr. and Audrey Byrd 107 Byrd St. Prosperity. Friends were received at the Whitaker Funeral Home Newberry on Wednesday July 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Funeral services were held Thursday July 21 at 3:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church of Prosperity 115 Wessinger Rd. and US Highway 76. Interment did follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Speakers for the services will be Rev. Alan Rhodes Bishop Kenneth Baker and Rev.
