Obituary

Walter John "Bill" Harvey, 95, formerly of Finleyville, Pa, died Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Carolina Gardens at Harbison in Irmo, SC. Born on February 1, 1922 in Drifting, Pa, he was a son of the late Albert and Alice Levitski Harvey. Mr. Harvey was a faithful and honorable U.S. Army Veteran, having served as a demolition engineer expert. He worked many years as pipe fitter, retiring from U.S. Steel and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of Finleyville, Pa. Mr. Harvey thoroughly enjoyed traveling and the outdoors. He could often be found fishing, hunting, or camping. His family was very important to him and he will be remembered most as a family man. He is survived by his daughters, Susan Smith (Wayne) of Lexington and Amy Easler (David) of Chapin; son, Thomas Harvey of Waterloo, OH; grandchildren, Jennifer Gartman (Allen) of Lexington, Danielle White (Jeff) of Lexington and Michelle Nock of Chapin; great-grandchildren, Hayden Harbaugh, Mason Gartman and Nora White all of Lexington; siblings, Theresa Carlson of Clearfield, Pa, Richard "Dick" Harvey (Gail) of Philipsburg, Pa, and John "Butch" Harvey (Marge) of Drifting, Pa; sister-in-law, Margaret Harvey of Philipsburg, Pa; brother-in-law, Frank Sturniolo of Clearfield, Pa; numerous nieces and nephews; and an unofficial adopted son, Steve Quinn of Finleyville, Pa. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Thelma Fell Harvey; brother, Alfred Harvey; sister, Marie Sturniolo; and a brother-in-law, Donald "Don" Carlson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 195 Amicks Ferry Road, Chapin, SC by the Reverend Dennis Willey. The family will receive friends following the service. A private burial will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Freedom and Hope Foundation, 598 Hollands Landing Road, Prosperity, SC 29127.
