Walter Henry Koon, 74, of Kinards died Saturday, July 6, 2019 at his home.
Born on January 21, 1945 in Newberry County, he was a son of the late Levi S. and Rebecca Crumpton Koon. He was retired from Eagle Construction Company and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War.
Henry was a member of Bush River Baptist Church where, as long as health permitted, he attended the Men's Sunday School Class. Additionally, he was a former volunteer with the Bush River Fire Department.
In his youthful days, he enjoyed racing on the dirt tracks at the Newberry and Laurens Speed Ways. He was also a collector. It was well known that anyone wanting to get rid of their "junk" only needed to give Henry a call.
A kind and caring man, he never met a stranger and always offered a helping hand to anyone and everyone. He was a friend to all.
He loved his family very much. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Deborah Bruce Koon; daughter, Christie K. Starnes (Jamie) of Laurens; grandchildren, T.J. Millwood (Katie Hazel) and Josh Millwood; siblings, Donald Koon (Robin) of Great Falls, Jeff Koon (Karen Long) of Newberry, Jeriah Boulware and Sarah Mae Stockman both of Prosperity, Marie Shemiah and Annette Rikard both of Newberry; loved by his nieces and nephews; special friends, Charles and April Moore and Sam and Emma Moore; and the family dog, Timber Breez Koon.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Carl Koon.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 8 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Bush River Baptist Church conducted be the Rev. Eric Truesdale. The casket will be placed in the church at 1:00 pm.
