Wendell "Wendy" Cousins Gilbert, age 65 formerly of Saluda, N.C. passed away on Sunday, December25th, 2022. Wendy was born in Hendersonville, NC and was the son of the late Narvice Cousins Gilbert and Frederick C. "Fred" Gilbert, Jr. He was an apple farmer by trade and was employed by the family business "Gilbert Orchards" for the majority of his working life. Wendy had a great appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed living on his land and exploring the countryside surrounding him. He had fond memories of summers spent at Lake Murray and in the mountains around Saluda, NC. Hunting, fishing, boating, water skiing, spending time with his dogs, collecting Native American artifacts and rock collecting were among his favorite pastimes. He is survived by his sister, Cassandra "Cassie" Gilbert Conner; his son, Glen G. Gilbert and wife Pernilla; 3 grandchildren, Matteo, Luca and Emma; his beloved dog Beauregard "Beau" and friends. The family would like to express our thanks for the extra care and friendship given by his close friend Bill Hawkins, his neighbors John and Laura Williams and to all of Wendy's friends and family that helped him in the recent years.

Wendy was laid to rest on January 6, 2023, he will be remembered and in our hearts during his mom's service on April 1, 2023 at 3:30pm, graveside, at Rosemont Cemetery, Newberry.
