William Alvin Hentz Sr. 76 of Fort Payne AL died Tuesday January 18 2011. Mr. Hentz was born March 3 1934 in Pomaria a son of the late Hugh W. and Vera Kinard Hentz. He was a retired Sergeant Major having served35 years in the U.S. Army Reserves. He had been a volunteer at Dekalb Regional Medical Center was a shriner in the Jamil Shrine Temple of Columbia South Carolina and in years past had umpired Little League baseball. He still maintained a love for watching baseball and football. Mr. Hentz was a member of First Baptist Church. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel Fort Payne AL with Bro. Paul Long and Dr. Pat McFadden officiating. Burial did follow in Glenwood Cemetery with military honors. He is survived by his wife Virginia Hentz; sons William Alvin Hentz Jr. and wife Janet of Lexinton SC and Johnboy Hentz of Pelion SC; daughter Ruth Willis and husband Vincent of Concord NC; grandchildren Ashleigh and Al Hentz and Shelby Andrew and Mary Lauren Willis. He was predeceased by brothers; Hugh W. Hentz Jr. Robert L. (Bobby) Hentz Thad K. Hentz and sister Betty Ann Hentz Summer. Wilson Funeral Home Fort Payne AL is in charge of arrangements.
