Obituary

William Boyd Duncan of Jefferson Street Newberry died Wednesday March 26 2014 after a short illness. Born December 27 1923 he was the son of Callie Ligon Duncan Sr. and Mattie Boyd Mills Duncan. He served in the Army Air Force from 1943 until 1946 and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Mr. Duncan was awarded the Good Conduct Medal the Army Commendation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Duncan retired as a salesman in the trucking industry having worked for MacLean Trucking and other trucking companies in SC and GA. He loved people children and animals and enjoyed reading all types of books including the dictionary and books about nature. He also enjoyed spending breakfast time with friends at Hardees for many years sharing gravy biscuits and swapping stories. He was a talented artist and enjoyed his painting. He was a member of Epting United Methodist Church and used his artistic talents to repaint the figures used in their outdoor Nativity during the Christmas season. Mr. Duncan was twice married first to the late Frances Wilhite Duncan and secondly to Loree P. Duncan. He is survived by a daughter Susan E. Duncan of Columbia and several nieces nephews and cousins and a special canine friend Bosco. He was predeceased by his sister Kathryn Duncan Lominick and his brother Callie L. Duncan Jr. Mr. Duncan donated his body to research at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. A gathering of friends and loved ones will be Sunday May 4 2014 at 4:00 PM at Ebenezer United Methodist Church 1254 Glenn Street Extension Newberry. Memorials may be made to Newberry County Animal Care and Control 11494 SC Highway 34 Newberry SC 29108 or to a charity of ones choice.
