William “Bill” H. Calhoun, 79, of Chapin, South Carolina died on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
Born on November 23, 1946, in Lexington, Virginia, he was the son of the late William E. and Shirley Rice Calhoun.
Bill was known for the love he had for his wife of 33 years, Marie Funderburk, his family and friends, as well as his ability to be the “head chef” at the family gatherings. Whether it was his famous spaghetti and olives or his enchiladas, his family always knew they would not be leaving disappointed. His joy for cooking began when he worked as a chef during his time in the United States Navy and his passion continued from there.
His knowledge of computer programming and systems analysis began at NC State and was further developed at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he completed his degree. He went on to enjoy a successful career in computer programming and systems analysis. His team spirit continued throughout his life. He could often be found wearing NC State apparel or his UNCC toboggan.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Marie; his niece, Ivey Homer (Brian); nephew, Grant Funderburk (Arianne); as well as great nieces and nephews, Calhoun, Annie-Kate, Collins and Wally.
Whitaker Funeral Home is honored to serve the Calhoun family.
