William Michael "Mike" Darby, 77, of Newberry, died Monday, August 8, 2016 at Laurens County Hospice House. Born on July 27, 1939 in Newberry, he was the son of the late William J. Darby and Helen Davis Darby. Mr. Darby was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer where he formally participated in the choir. He was also a life member of Amity Lodge 87, a founding board member of the Newberry Community Players, and served as Ambassador for the Newberry Opera House. Mike enjoyed teaching shag and ballroom dance for many years. He is survived by an aunt, Atlee D. Lindsay; cousins, Linda Darby, Rob Darby, Lin McAbee, J.B. Lindsay, Bob Davis, Bill Davis, Jerry Davis, Gayle D. Lindley, Kay D. Kinard, and Sheley Ridout; and special friends, Grady Senn and Alan Glymph. A gathering of friends with a time of remembrance led by Rev. Matthew Titus will begin at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Family Life Center. A private burial will be held at a later date.
