William E. Bill Evans 92 of Newberry died Tuesday September 9 2014. Funeral services were conducted 11:00 AM on Friday September 12 2014 at Glenn Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Whitesides and the Rev. Audrey Reese. Military honors were rendered following the service. The family did receive friends at 12 Glenn St. from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday. Parking was available on the Crescent Street side of the home. Born on October 10 1921 in Middlesboro KY he was a son of the late Edmund and Ida Davis Evans. Bill was the youngest of their seven children and the last surviving member of the immediate family. He served in the U.S. Army a veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW and American Legion Post 24. He was a member of Glenn Street Baptist Church and also a lifetime member of the Salvation Army Board of Directors. After a lifelong career with the J.C. Penney Company in Kentucky North Carolina and South Carolina he retired as manager of the Rock Hill store in 1982. Mr. Evans is survived by his wife of 68 years Sereta Blessing Evans; children and their spouses Deborah and Bob Hartness of Newberry and Gardner and Carol Evans of Cary NC; granddaughters Dianne Hartness of Columbia and Rev. Audrey Reese and her spouse Ashley Reese of Westminster SC; brother-in-law Oscar Blessing of Beaumont TX and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Harry Ethridge Tom Hartness Travis Kelly and Ashley Reese.
