William H. Franklin Jr. 85 of 1119 Summer St. Newberry died Wednesday December 3 2008 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.He was born in Newberry County on May 28 1923 to the late W. Hayne and Josie Brock Franklin Sr. He was an US Army Air Corp veteran of World War II and a retired mail carrier with the US Postal Service. Mr. Franklin was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and a former member of the Men's Bible Class. He was a member of the McDonalds Coffee Club and was a Master Mason. He is survived by his wife Sara Byrd Franklin of the home; his son William H "Bill" Franklin III and wife Carolyn of Irmo; two grandsons Brian D. Franklin and wife Monica of Gilbert and Kevin A. Franklin and wife Karen of Lexington; three great grandchildren Joel Ashton and Landon Franklin; and two sisters Maggie Lee Davis of Newberry and Joan Phibbs of Aiken. He was predeceased by a brother Gus B. Franklin and a sister Ida Mae Hawkins. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 PM Friday at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer by the Rev. Caldwell Day. Interment were in Rosemont Cemetery.The family did receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Whitaker Funeral Home Newberry.Pallbearers were his nephews; Gus Franklin Jr. Jim Franklin Henry Franklin George Franklin Hayne Davis Andy Hawkins Robert Phibbs and Ben Phibbs.
