William Houseal "Willie" Hawkins 84 of 2706 Deloache Ave. Newberry died Sunday January 2 2005 at his residence.Mr. Hawkins was born on Feb. 14 1920 in Newberry County a son of the late Bloomer P. and Mary Elizabeth Sligh Hawkins. He was a Army veteran of World War II having served in Guadalcanal. He was the retired owner of H & H Machine Shop and he was a member of Central United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golf bridge gardening and walking.Mr. Hawkins is survived by his wife married for 58 years Margaret Sligh Hawkins of the home; a daughter and son-in-law Carolyn H. and Robert Partridge of Newberry; a sister Elizabeth Shannon of Newberry a brother Bloomer "Jack" Hawkins of Newberry; two grandchildren Leslie Claire Davis of Union and Christine Leah Davis of Newberry. He was predeceased by five sisters Margaret H. Boozer Lillie H. Waters Sara H. Wessinger Mary H. Sease and Ruth H. Lominack and three brothers George P. Hawkins R. Dudley Hawkins and Carl W. Hawkins.Funeral services were conducted 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Central United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Miller. Interment was in the Springdale Section of Rosemont Cemetery. Visitation was 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home and the family was at the residence2706 Deloache Ave. Memorial may be made to Central United Methoodist Church PO Box 67.
