William "Rusty" D. Dowell, 60, of Newberry, died Thursday morning, November 7, 2024, in Richland County, South Carolina.

Born in Delaware on May 24, 1964, he was a son to the late Wade Dewey Dowell and Willa Karen Colegrove.

Rusty was the proud owner of Dowell's Welding and enjoyed his craft as a welder and pipe fitter.

He was a hard-working man. If he wasn't at work, he was busy with other projects and could often be found working around the house, listening to Eminem, Queen and TOOL. He had a talent with wood working, which felt more like therapy to him. He used his talents to create one-of-a-kind pieces for those he loved most.

Rusty also enjoyed building fires with a cold Natty Daddy. He loved the outdoors and being in nature – it brought him much comfort.

Rusty loved and adored his family. He was a proud Dad to his three daughters and Papa to his four grandchildren. He was a devoted husband to his wife, whom he loved and cherished.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joyce Lynn Dowell; his daughters, Karen Dowell (Jon Vaughan), Megan Dowell (Preston Whittenberger) and Rebecca Dowell (Isaiah Smith); grandchildren, Leif, Amelia, Henry and Lotus. He is also survived by his sisters, Madge Angel and Lisa Dowell; and brother DJ Tuttle.

A gathering to celebrate Rusty's life will be from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry, SC, 1704 College Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
