Obituary

William Fitzgerald Rutherford, III died unexpectedly on January 21st, 2022 from heart failure. Born on May 4th, 1960, he was the eldest son of Peggy Ann Stutts Rutherford and William Fitzgerald "Gerry" Rutherford, Jr. "Fitz" graduated from Irmo High School in 1978, attended Clemson University and finished his studies at the University of South Carolina in 1982. His children will cherish the memory of a loving father who served as a cub scout leader, a Little League coach, and a PTA President. He was a jack of all trades: his interests ranged from real estate and home inspections, to a passion he found later in life, of movie and television production. Fitz was a generous person who would often go out of his way to help anyone in need. He is survived by his son, William Fitzgerald Rutherford, IV (Gabrielle) and his daughter, Brannon Rutherford (Chase), his brothers, John "E" Rutherford (London) and Robert "Colonel" Rutherford (Maria), five grandchildren, Rosalee Rutherford, William Fitzgerald "Liam" Rutherford, V, Keagan Lewis, Miles Lewis, and Finn Brawley, and his nephews Gavin Rutherford, Reece Rutherford, and Drayton Rutherford. A graveside funeral service will be provided by Whitaker Funeral Home at Rosemont Cemetery on College Street in Newberry on Friday January 28th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Team Gleason, www.teamgleason.org Memories and messages may be shared with the family here on his tribute page. Whitaker Funeral Home is honored to assist the family.
