Obituary

William "Billy" Senn, 94, of Newberry died Wednesday, August 27, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born on April 1, 1931, in Silverstreet, SC, he was the son of the late Foster and Elizabeth McMillan Senn.

After high school, he served in the SC National Guard for several years.

In the early 1950's, Billy and his brother, Angus, began a trucking company business, which later became Senn Trucking, Inc. They began with one truck which Billy drove and grew the business to include several hundred trucks before Billy retired. After retirement he remained interested in business, always enjoying hearing how others were being successful in their endeavors.

He was an active member of Central United Methodist Church, participating in various church activities, and a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was involved in his community as a member in the Jaycee's and later the Kiwanis Club of Newberry and several supper and dance clubs over the years.

In 2018, he was awarded the Newberry Boy Scout Distinguished Citizen Award, a recognition that was unexpected and very meaningful to Billy.

Billy enjoyed traveling with Winnie; they saw amazing places like China, Hawaii, and multiple places in Europe. They also enjoyed the adventures with Christian Tours. The most enjoyable trips he had were with his grandchildren. Whether it was Charleston, North Carolina or Washington DC, Grandaddy was always game and always wore his yellow shirt. He was proud of all his accomplishments in life, but none more so than his family.

Billy is survived by his wife of 68 years, Winnie Davenport Senn; sons Mark Senn (Lisa) and David Senn (Fran); grandchildren, Rob Senn (Dr. Jackie Bangma), Mary Alex Kopp (Robbie), Mac Senn (Maya), Will Senn, and Sarah Jane Senn; and great-grandchildren. Palmer, Cal, and June. He is also survived by his sister, Sue White and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Charlie Senn, Jesse Senn, Frank Senn, George Senn, Angus Senn, Lena Senn Webb, Judy Senn Shell, and Dolly Senn York.

Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Keith Stewart at 1:30 PM, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Central United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service in Henry Hall.

Memorials are suggested to Central United Methodist Church, 1005 College St., Newberry, SC 29108.
