William "Will" Charles Blackmon of Newberry, 51 years of age, died on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Lexington Medical Center. Will fought a fierce battle in his attempt to overcome the ravaging effects and complications of COVID.
Born on July 17, 1969 in Rock Hill, SC, he is a son of the late Elaine Babb Blackmon and Benjamin Thomas Blackmon.
Will was a 1992 graduate of Newberry College where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity (ATO) and played football during his years there. He has been an active member in the Newberry College Athletic Club where he currently serves as the President and also serves on the Newberry College Board of Trustees. He is a member of Summer Memorial Lutheran Church.
Will was the founder and owner of Blackmon's Jewelry Repair and Mfg. in Newberry and was valued as a businessman and as a supporter of the Newberry community. He was a selfless and giving man, a man who would open his home to anyone and would do whatever he could for others; and he was the husband and father who would sacrifice everything for his wife and sons. Many amazing memories have been created with his family and his friends through the years, memories that will always be cherished.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Leah Cromer Blackmon and sons, Benjamen "Ben" William Blackmon and Alec Charles Blackmon. He is also survived by his sisters, Allison Blackmon and Lisa Blackmon McKaughan and husband Will all of Rock Hill; brother, Lee Blackmon and wife Teresa of Charleston; grandmother, Margaret Ann Tice of Rock Hill; parents through marriage, Larry and Rita Cromer of Newberry; sister through marriage, Paige Nichols and husband David; nieces and nephews, Hannah and Zach McKaughan, Holly, Allison and Matthew Blackmon and Cole "C.P." Nichols; extended family member, Dovie Franklin and many other loved family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by grandparents, Margaret and Charles Babb.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral services to be held on Good Friday, April 2, 2021 at 10:00 am in the Newberry College Football Stadium with Pastor James Henricks and Pastor Stephen Mims officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00 pm in Newberry Memorial Gardens.

The family invites everyone to join them in the lot area across College Street following the service to share memories and to celebrate Will under the big tent.
Per the requirements of Newberry College, the wearing of face masks and social distancing will be observed. Those attending are asked to sit in the bleacher seats designated with the wolf paw.
Active pallbearers will be Shep Tate, Eddie Hyman, David Jolly, Drew Watson, Donnie Suber, Jesse Schwires, Todd Sanders, James Putman and Jon Teske.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Newberry College Athletic Board, Newberry College Football Coaching staff and David Helms.
All who wish to visit with the family are welcomed at their home where "the doors are always open." You are also invited to sign the guest register and for viewing from 10 am until 5 pm on Wednesday and Thursday at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry.
To honor Will, the family has established a foundation and suggest memorials be made to the William C. Blackmon Athletic Memorial Foundation, Attn: David Nichols, 7050 SC Hwy 34, Newberry, SC 29108. The funds will be used for improvements to the football stadium.
