Willie Wright Waites, 69, of Pomaria, died Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Palmetto Health Richland. Born on May 1, 1946 in Newberry County, he was a son of the late Edgar and Annie Mae Livingston Waites. He was the co-owner of Waites Brothers Builders which was established in 1973 and was a member of Enoree Baptist Church. Even though he was confined to a wheel chair, he was a happy and friendly man, who was a fighter and an inspiration to young people. He loved life and enjoyed yard work, hunting, fishing, and building things. He was a loving husband and father who is survived by his wife of ¬¬¬27 years, Deborah Hellams Waites; children, Cristen Aiken (James, Jr.) of Prosperity and Dale Bright (Margaret) of Woodruff; siblings, Reba Lake and Bennette Waites (Linda) all of Newberry, and Barbara Smith (Harold), Kathie Leitzsey (Caroll), and Ted Waites (Lallie) all of Pomaria; grandchildren Cierra White, James Michael Aiken, Tyler Bright, and Lizzie Bright; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clara Sue Waites, James and Dianne Mahaffey, William and Susan Hellams, and Gary Hellams; 5 nieces, 18 nephews, 13 great nieces, 20 great nephews; 6 great great nieces, and 5 great great nephews. He was predeceased by siblings, Margaret Long, Curtis Edgar Waites, and Kenneth Waites; brothers-in-law, Lindsay Livingston, Albert Long, and Harold Lake; and nephew Corey Hellams. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Enoree Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. George Leagans. Burial will follow in Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery in Woodruff, SC. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Saturday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Enoree Baptist Church Building Fund, 5101 Jollystreet Road, Newberry, SC 29108. Active pallbearers will be Dean Long, Jarrett Waites, Stacy Waites, Doyle Waites, Chad Leitzsey, Marty Livingston, Randall Waites, and Todd Waites.
